Subcritical Water Extraction as an Effective Technique for the Isolation of Phenolic Compounds of Achillea Species

The genus Achillea has significant medical potential due to the presence of highly bioactive compounds in its chemical composition. To take advantage plants’ biomedical potential, it is great importance use a proper extraction process. This study aimed determine and compare preliminary composition five different species extracted with two conventional (infusion maceration) non-conventional (ultrasound-assisted (UAE) Subcritical water (SWE)) techniques. extracts were prepared using previously described procedures for infusion, maceration, UAE SWE extraction. For all extracts, yield (dry extract (DE)) was determined. analyzed preliminarily chemically characterized spectrophotometrically terms total phenolic content (TPC) flavonoid (TFC). obtained results showed that techniques delivered higher values TPC TFC than conventional. There statistically increase DE when applying observed species. highest value, 48.80 ± 1.76%, A. asplenifolia. after SWE: 93.63 1.01 mg GAE/g millefolium, 90.12 0.87 crithmifolia. revealed difference values, nobilis subsp. nelreichii as sample (11.11 0.22 QE/g DE) UAE. Consequently, could be concluded superior technique, nerleichii presents most promising plant.
